Anton Krotenthaller (Neulerchenfeld 1807-1871 Ottakring) was a Roman Catholic cleric, active in Vienna. As a child of poor parents, he entered the Piarist order in 1824 (professed in 1829, priest in 1830); then worked first as a teacher and in 1849 became rector of the Piarist college and pastor of Piarist Church (Church of Maria Treu, Piaristenkirche Maria Treu), Vienna, a position he held until his death in 1871. Father Krotenthaller was also school inspector for the 6th district and, from 1850-1861, councilman. He had a new organ built for his church (1858) and the facade renewed according to plans by architect Franz Sitte (construction of the two towers); worked on the school system (especially the institute for the blind); and developed charitable aid projects.
