Luise Max-Ehrler was the sister-in-law of artist Gabriel von Max (1840-1916); she was married to his brother, artist Heinrich Max (1847-1900).

The End of Love was Luise Max-Ehrler's best-known work; the painting was reproduced on prints and postcards that widely circulated.
